Professor Mykytyn grew up in Rochester, New York and is married to his wife Kathleen. They have two sons, a daughter, and three grandchildren. He met his wife in Hanau Germany while stationed there with the US Army. She was working with the Department of Defense teaching with the US school system in Germany. They were married in a civil ceremony in Basel Switzerland and at the main chapel at the US Army's Pioneer Kaserne in Hanau. A civil ceremony was required in Europe regardless of whether a religious ceremony was desired. Upon leaving the Army, Professor Mykytyn worked at Eastman Kodak Company and in the entrepreneurial environment dealing with successful small businesses before pursuing graduate studies. Prior to coming to SIU Carbondale, he taught and conducted research at the University of Texas at Arlington.

Education

  • Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree with a major in Marketing from John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio.
  • Master of Business Administration degree from Arizona State University in Tempe, AZ
  • Doctor of Philosophy degree with a concentration in Computer Information Systems from Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ

Research Interests

  • Information systems to achieve and sustain a competitive advantage
  • Relationship between information systems and law
  • Intellectual property (patents, copyrights, and trademarks) as they relate to information systems and electronic commerce
  • Use of group support systems to improve and support decision making with special interests involving teams
